Friendship Force International (FFI)
Friendship Force International is a non-profit organization dedicated to the principle that each person can make a contribution to global goodwill. Home hospitality—the heart of a Friendship Force exchange—provides the opportunity for people of different countries and cultures to connect at a personal level. More than a million participants have experienced the personal enrichment and cross culture understanding that results from a Friendship Force exchange. The ever widening Friendship Force global network represents a powerful and growing force that can overcome differences between people and nations.
Since its establishment in 1977, with the support and endorsement of President Jimmy Carter, FFI has actively sought to foster relations between diverse people and cultures in more than 60 countries around the world. The organization was recognized for its achievements in 1992 by being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Club members travel as “Ambassadors” from their home country to another country or domestic club. Local Friendship Force hosts welcome them into their homes, providing a home stay of up to 7 days. The host club arranges a program and activities that is representative of their history, community life, and culture.
Friendship Force of Central Virginia (FFCV)
Friendship Force of Central Virginia joined FFI in 1991. We presently have approximately 50 members, including several Charter or “lifetime” members. We have hosted civilian Ambassadors from other countries on over 25 Inbound Journeys. FFCV members have participated as civilian Ambassadors on over 20 Outbound Journeys to other countries. In addition, FFCV has hosted over 20 Inbound Domestic Journeys of other clubs from the United States and we have gone on 4 Outbound Domestic Journeys. See “Past Journeys” for details.
FFCV provides many opportunities for social interaction among its members, friends and guests. Programs are planned to consider the many interests of members and to support our community network. Each meeting often promotes a different theme and venue. This includes various activities; for example, mystery dinner parties, theater outings, wine tastings, and visits to museums and historical venues. Yearly dues are $35 per individual.
